It has become a cherished tradition to organize and enjoy company Christmas events in December. For the fourth year in a row since our founding just eight years ago, the entire Optomech team enjoyed a historical city tour around the Gänseliesel statue on Friday, highlighting the old town of Göttingen under the guidance of Petra Siebert. Our 1.5-hour program, organized by Göttinger Tourismus und Marketing e.V., included a visit to the Old Town Hall with a beautiful narrative from 200 years of Hanseatic city history. In wintry temperatures, we walked from Rote Straße through the historic courtyard, past the Gaudi restaurant, and within a few meters we were already on Barfüßerstraße heading towards Wilhelmsplatz. From there, we were able to admire the large ballroom of the Georg August University building, which is still central today and was built between 1835 and 1837 in the classicist style.

King William IV of England donated it to mark the university’s 100th anniversary. The gable at the front is impressive. It is the work of sculptor Ernst von Bandel and depicts the four faculties of theology, law, medicine, and philosophy. The highlight of the tour awaited us in the attic of the auditorium in the form of casemates. We were able to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the 19th century, with inscribed walls, old stoves, old beer crates… Our city tour ended in front of St. James’s Church, which is simply beautiful. The concert will have to wait. The city is so diverse that it is impossible to discover all its sights on a guided tour.
The perfect end to the evening was a delicious dinner in the vaulted cellar of the Bullerjahn restaurant, where everyone could choose a tasty dish.

We are very optimistic about 2024, delighted to have doubled our turnover compared to the previous year and tripled our workforce over the last three years from 4 to 12 highly motivated and committed employees.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, suppliers, and project participants, and wish everyone a happy second Advent.
